Haemodynamic changes after tracheal intubation in cigarette smokers compared with non-smokers.

چکیده
We have studied the haemodynamic changes in response to tracheal intubation in 60 ASA I women undergoing elective gynaecological surgery; 30 women smoked more than 10 cigarettes a day, while the other 30 were non-smokers. Immediately after intubation, heart rate of smokers (mean 102.0 (SD 17) beat min-1) was significantly greater (P < 0.01) than that of non-smokers (mean 91.0 (12.3) beat min-1). This may be clinically important in smokers who are at risk of ischaemic heart disease and also relevant for future studies investigating haemodynamic responses to intubation.

Control of haemodynamic response to tracheal intubation in cigarette smokers compared with non-smokers.
Some authors have demonstrated that a bolus dose of 1 microg/kg followed by an infusion rate of 0.5 microg/kg/min is adequate to attenuate the haemodynamic response to laringoscopy and tracheal intubation. In this study we have evaluated the efficacy of Remifentanil in controlling haemodynamic and some neuroendocrine responses to tracheal intubation in smokers compared with non-smokers. We stud...
متن کاملEffect of Intensity of Cigarette Smoking on Leukocytes among Adult Men and Women Smokers in Bangladesh
Background: Smoking is one of the preventable causes of disease in middle and low-income countries. This study was conducted in smokers and non-smokers to observe the changes in total count of leukocytes in cigarette smokers in relation to body mass index (BMI) and blood pressure (BP). Methods:The study populations were from different sources including diagnostic center and general hospital, an...
متن کاملThe Acute Effect of Cigarette Smoking on QT Dispersion
Background: Cigarette smoking has several known detrimental effect on cardiovascular system. QT dispersion (QTd) is among the important predictors of cardiac death. Objective: To assess the acute effect of smoking of a single standard cigarette on QT and QTc (corrected QT) dispersion, hence on the risk of ventricular arrhythmias in healthy smokers and non-smokers. Methods: 111 healthy men wit...
متن کاملDifference of the hemodynamic changes induced by tracheal intubation using remifentanil between smokers and nonsmokers
BACKGROUND It was well-known that smoking affects the cardiovascular system, and remifentanil can suppress the sympathetic stimulations induced by tracheal intubation. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether there was any difference in the hemodynamic changes induced by tracheal intubation with using remifentanil between smokers and nonsmokers. METHODS EIGHTY PATIENTS WERE ENROLL...
متن کاملPostoperative Hypoxemia and Oxygen Need in Bakers Compared with Cigarette and Water Pipe Smokers
Background: Hypoxemia is a frequent complication after general anesthesia. It usually takes longer to recover in individuals with respiratory problems. Bakers may suffer from respiratory problems such as asthma. The objective of this study was to compare the occurrence of hypoxemia and duration of supplemental oxygen administration during recovery from general anesthesia in bakers and smokers. ...
